BC Coilovers - BR Series Coilovers

Perfect for fast road cars which are also used as track day cars. In most applications they use a large 53mm damper with a 44mm piston rod. This is good news as the larger damper gives you more oil capacity so the heat generated in the damper oil is dissipated more quickly compared to smaller bodied dampers. This means the damper performs at the same high level for longer – perfect for track days! The large diameter piston rod is stronger than most thinner rods and won’t bend under extreme racing conditions.

BC BR Series Coilovers - Features

Dampers have 30 settings from soft to hard which allows you to soften or stiffen the dampers so you can dial out understeer or oversteer. This is a must for cars being used on the road and track as a hard track setting is quite uncomfortable on the road. Adjusting your BC Coilovers to a softer setting will allow you to use the car as a daily driver. As the springs are matched to the damper valving, even on softer settings your car will feel more controlled, exhibit a firmer ride than standard but won’t feel harsh or crashy.

On Macpherson strut cars, we supply all BR Series BC Coilovers with camber adjustable front top plates. This magic piece of kit will allow you to significantly lower your car for that perfect stance, once lowered you will be able to reduce the negative camber that comes with lowering a car. You will be able to return the camber to factory settings for road use and your tyres won’t wear on the inner edge in every day driving. For track use, add a bit of negative camber or better grip!

Most BC coilover BR Series kits come with pillowball top mounts. This gives a more precise location to the top of the damper units and helps to keep the suspension geometry where it should be giving you more grip. That said, if the kit doesn’t come with pillowball top mounts, don’t worry, this is because the car physically cannot accommodate them or BC Racing, after extensive testing, have decided they are an unnecessary expense on that particular model. You probably won’t see many road kits with pillowball rear mounts. This is because pillowball mounts make more noise than rubber and as the rear mounts are generally within the cabin space, BC Racing use hardened rubber mounts as they are quieter. The front pillowballs are under the bonnet and isolated from the cabin so the extra noise is rarely noticeable.

Another brilliant feature of all BC Racing BR Series Coilovers is the way that height is adjusted. BC Racing build the height adjuster into the bottom mount. This is great news for road and race car drivers, as the height is not set using the lower spring mount as most coilover kits do, the damper retains its full travel so the car won’t bottom out on bumpy roads or over the kerbs on the race track. If that did happen and the suspension become solid (like a go-kart) you would find your car skipping across the road to the nearest tree or crash barrier. Not good! The lower spring mount is still used for pre-load and corner weighting as you would expect.

The last feature we wanted to explain is a comfort feature. As coilovers used to be aimed mainly at the race car market, most manufactures have chosen not to worry about the noise that coilovers generate when driving the car round car parks and mini roundabouts. The annoying “twanging” noise is mostly eliminated in all BC Racing BR Series Coilover kits as they use a spring top plate that has a bearing fitted. The bearing will also allow the steering to turn more easily which is great for road driving!
